The King is Coming

Isaiah is quoted quite a bit in the Gospel of Matthew. So, it makes sense to go to this Old Testament prophet first if we are going to spend the bulk of the Advent Season in Matthew. Here in Isaiah 7:13-14 is an old, very, very old pregnancy announcement. Specifically, a pregnancy annoucement of a baby boy who will be King. But Isaiah’s words do more than simply announce the birth of King Jesus.

Isn’t it unfair and unlikely that Christianity is the only way to God?

Is a person who never hears the name of Jesus going to be punished because they have not placed faith in Him? Is Jesus really the only path to eternal life? Isn’t it arrogant for Christians to believe that they are right and everyone else is wrong? This week we are going to look at Jesus’ claim in the Gospel of John that new life only comes through him.

Jesus Gives Us Righteousness

The greatest exchange offered in history is God’s offer to us to exchange our sin for Christ’s righteousness through the cross. It is a gift from God that we receive by trusting God’s grace. Embracing God’s grace helps us get off the performance treadmill and walk on the path of God’s grace.
